There are three memorisation boards and one control board (without frames).
THE FIRST MEMORISATION BOARD:
1 square running from 1 to 10 along the y-axis and x-axis with the results of the combinations
1 tray holding a basket with the combinations, paper and a pencil
THE SECOND MEMORISATION BOARD:
the board where only part of the results has been kept: all the duplicates have been removed
1 tray holding a basket with all the combinations, paper and a pencil
THE THIRD MEMORISATION BOARD:
1 square identical to the first board, 10 by 10 but without the results written on it
1 tray holding a yellow box on which the “plus” sign is written in black and
in which you find the answer tokens for the combinations (written in yellow on a white background)
PRESENTATION:
1. The first multiplication memorisation board
fetch the material and settle at a table with the child
introduce the activity and ask the child to draw a combination
write the combination on the paper
consult the board to find the result, at the intersection of the two numbers
place the combination above the board
invite the child to draw another combination.
Continue until there are no combinations left. The child can check the results with the control board.
Once the child has done all the combinations, suggest taking 2x3 and writing it on the sheet, then taking 3x2 and writing it down too. Consult the board: the result is the same. Then cross out one of the two combinations, the last one. Continue with 2x4 and 4x2, then 2x5 and 5x2, 2x6 and 6x2, 2x7 and 7x2 until all the combinations are done. Once the exercise is finished, introduce the second board.
2. The second multiplication memorisation board
follow the same procedure as for the first one
invite the child to draw a combination, write it on the paper, consult the board.
to find the result, move down and up by the same number of squares with the right hand and the left hand, then read the result in the square where the two fingers meet
write the result on the paper
3. The third multiplication memorisation board
fetch the material with the child
open the box and stack the answer tokens by family and in ascending order - draw a combination, take the result and place the answer token on the board. At this stage the child knows the tables; if certain results are forgotten, the control board is there as a help.
