THE RECYCLING CYCLE puppets + MP3 CD

PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

- Becoming aware of the need to care for and respect the environment.

- Raising awareness of a practice of sorting household waste to make recycling and waste disposal easier.

- Knowing the different types of household waste.

- Sorting household waste according to the type of container in which it must be placed for collection and recycling.

ACTIVITIES

1. Finding out how the waste we recycle is transformed:

- Print, photocopy and cut out the 5 cards (A5) to colour. Hand out the 5 cards to each pupil so they can colour them. Then the teacher shows one of the puppets and asks the pupils to hold up the card showing what this puppet can be recycled into:

- Tin can: bicycle

- Plastic bottle: plastic ball

- Glass bottle: various glass jars

- Cardboard box: book - Carrot: fertiliser

2. Sorting waste by its origin or material: (ask pupils to bring magazine cuttings showing waste and packaging)

- Organic waste: leftover fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, etc.

- Paper: bags, newspapers, magazines, etc.

- Cardboard: biscuit boxes and other products, egg cartons, etc.

- Plastic packaging: bags, water bottles, cleaning-product packaging, yoghurt pots, packaging of other foods, etc.

- Metal packaging: tin cans, drink cans, etc.

- Carton-type (brick) packaging.

- Glass: glass jars, glass bottles, etc.

- Batteries.

3. Linking waste to the container it must be placed in:

- Explain to the pupil which selective waste-collection containers there are in the local area.

- Explain which type of waste goes in each container (according to colour).

- Make signs with the different types of containers existing in the local area.

- Hand out the magazine cuttings the pupils brought and stick them on the corresponding container.
