Presentation

Go and fetch the material from the shelf with the child. ·Introduce the material and place all the triangles on the mat. ·Tell the child “I'm going to give you a word. I'd like you to give me what is written.” Write the word “triangle” on a piece of paper, then hand this ticket to the child. The child reads it and asks “which one?”. Say “I'll write down the one I want”, then write “the large triangle” on a long strip of paper and give it to the child.
Say “Now we can remove the small and medium triangles”. The child asks “which one?”. Say “I'll tell you what it's like”, then write on the same paper “the large right-angled triangle” and give it to the child. Say “Now we can remove all the triangles that are not right-angled triangles”. Once removed, say “What do we have left? Can you give it to me now?”. The child asks “which one?”. On the same paper write “the large isosceles right-angled triangle” and give it to the child. Say “There are several of them, we only remove those that are not isosceles triangles”. Say “Can you give it to me now?”. On the same paper write “the large red isosceles right-angled triangle” and give it to the child. The child removes all the other triangles.
·Play the transposition game
Cut the ticket of the large red isosceles right-angled triangle into three. Transpose the tickets and read the various combinations.

·Place the symbols

Say “Which word tells us what we are talking about?”, “triangle”. Place the matching symbol. Say “Which word tells us how many triangles there are?”, “the”. Place the matching symbol. Say “Which words tell us what the triangle is like?”, “large, right-angled, isosceles, red”. Place the matching symbol.

Note: the child must know the names of the triangles.
