PRESENTATION OF THE MATERIAL:

PRESENTATION:

1. invite the child to wash their hands and then sit at a table with them. (You may offer a bowl filled with water in which to dip the fingers).
2. say a word, for example « tulip », and ask what they hear. « Tu », « u ». « Would you like me to show you what the -u- looks like? »
3. take out the tablet showing the « u », run your finger over the letter and say « u ». Invite the child to touch it too and to say « u ». Do it a second time, then ask if they know other words with the « u » sound. It is important that the child associates the movement with the sound.
4. choose another word containing, for example, the « a » sound. Take out the « a » tablet and have the child touch it; ask if they know other words, and tell them some if they cannot find any.
5. have them touch the « u » again while saying « u », then the « a » while saying « a ».
6. then ask the child what they would like you to show them, and ask them to say a word. From this word, isolate the first consonant heard, for example « t ». Take out the tablet and have the child touch the letter.
7. go back to the « u », touch it, have the child touch it and say a word starting with « u ». Then go back to the « a », touch it, have the child touch it and say a word starting with « a ». Do the same for the « t ».

Give a three-period lesson:

place the three letters on the table and ask the child to touch the « u », the « a » and the « t ». Move the letters around, then ask the child again to touch each letter. Then ask them to point to each of the letters. Mix them up and ask the same question. Then point to a letter and ask its name. Proceed in this way for all three.

Pair these letters with a small tray covered with gold adhesive. Cover it with very fine sand and invite the child to draw the letter.
