The Addition Chart is a double-entry table showing the results of additions. By crossing rows and columns, you find the result of the corresponding addition. This tool lets the child visualise basic additions, identify the relationships between numbers and makes it easier to memorise number facts.

Help your child master addition with the Addition Chart! A practical tool to memorise, visualise and understand basic additions.

OVERVIEW OF THE MATERIAL:

  • 1 chart running from 1 to 18, with the numbers from 1 to 10 in red
  • 1 tray holding paper and a pencil
  • blue rods running from 1 to 9
  • graduated red rods running from 1 to 9
  • the addition table booklets

Example of a practical exercise:

  1. Fetch the material
  2. Place the chart on the table in front of the child and the rods on each side of the chart, the red ones on the right and the blue ones on the left, aligned to the left and running from 1 to 9
  3. Tell the child you are going to work on the addition tables; ask the child to give you an addition, for example 7+6, which you write on the paper
  4. Take the blue rod of seven and place it on the chart
  5. Take the red rod of six and place it right after
  6. Read the result on the chart, 13, and write it on the sheet
  7. then tell the child you are going to build a table, for example the table of seven
  8. Write the table on the paper: 7+1=, 7+2=, 7+3=, 7+4=, 7+5=, 7+6=, 7+1=, 7+8=, 7+9=; place the blue rod of seven on the chart and take the one from the red rod
  9. Once the child has read the result, he writes it on the sheet and you put the red rod of one back in its place but turned over to mark that it has been used
  10. Continue the table with the following numbers
  11. Each time the child writes the result he finds on the paper.
