Explore the world of words with our Large Wooden Movable Alphabet.
This movable alphabet, inspired by traditional print typefaces, invites children to handle the letters, explore sounds and build their first words. A valuable tool for preparing for reading and writing. Easy storage thanks to the two boxes provided (50 cm x 28 cm per box)
Print letters in two large boxes.
Once we have said them all, put them back in place and tell the child that we are going to write a word. Ask them which word they want to write. After choosing, ask them what sound they hear. Start with the first sound and continue to the end of the word. Each time, take out the letter corresponding to the sound.
If the child has chosen a word containing a phoneme they do not know, for example the "an" in maman, show them how the sound "an" is written. ("What do you hear in maman? MM, do you remember what it looks like? - the child takes it from the box and places it on the mat. And after that, what sound do we hear? MA A the child takes the letter A and so on).
For proper nouns keep the spelling, for other words choose the option that suits us best, either write phonetically, or show the child the phonemes they do not know.
When the child has seen all the sandpaper letters and writes them, introduce the second movable alphabet. Ask them what they wish to write (words, a letter...) Proceed in the same way, each time asking the child what sound they hear.
