Example of a practical exercise:

1. Fetch the material from the shelf together with the child
2. Sit down with the child at a table. Ask them to take out all the numerals and build the sequence from 1 to 10
3. Ask them to place under each numeral the matching number of counters, after starting yourself: up to three or four, for example. Each time the child places a counter, have them count out loud
4. Once they have finished, tell them you are going to show them something: that you can run a finger between the counters of an even number, but you cannot run a finger between the counters of an odd number. Run your finger between the even counters and push them upwards each time. Say the sequence of even numbers out loud: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and have the child say them. "These are the even numbers." Say the sequence of odd numbers out loud: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and then have the child say them. "These are the odd numbers."
5. Give a three-period lesson: ask the child to show us an even number then an odd number, then point to a numeral and ask whether it is even or odd.
