The Renaissance

Today this word is used broadly to describe the change in mindset that took place in Europe, essentially during the 16th century.

People aspired to live serenely with their feet on the ground, in the concrete world. They criticised the Christian and medieval insistence on the fall of man into a world of infamy after original sin, and its consequence: the inclination towards the marvellous and the unreal, especially among artists.
